The Santa Cruz Guitar Orchestra presents the final concert of the 2010-11 season with an exciting program of music from baroque and romantic to jazz, ragtime, western, and rock'n roll styles played on many guitars! Directed by guitarist/composer Mesut Özgen, the SCGO is comprised of professional players, teachers, and students from the local community. The concert program includes a wide range of works. Among the highlights are Grieg's beautiful orchestral suite "Peer Gynt" (watch out how the guitars are imitating bassoons, strings, drums, and cymbals!), French Pot-Pourri by Roland Dyens (expect musical and theatric surprises from the playful composer), Garcia's "The Sandman Cometh" featuring two dueling guitar orchestras, Verdery's "Scenes from Ellis Island" featuring surprise guest musicians in the exciting finale with a special rhythmic pattern from traditional East Indian music, and Morricone's film music for the legendary Clint Eastwood movies.
